Photograph Rural Florida

Ever feel like you need a change from scenic swaying palms and our outrageous sunsets along the Gulf Coast?  They’re great, zillions of tourists and residents alike can’t be wrong and we’re not but sometimes a change of scenery is just what the Dr. ordered.  Why not take pictures of old Florida?

What’s to see?

Recently we left Naples for some outdoor photography along Rt. 31and were rewarded with lots of attractive subjects.   Old growth oaks and  waving moss, roadside canals filled with great egrets and other waders plus fields full of beautifully rolled hay, just right with warm light.  Like birds?  There were more than enough resident sandhill cranes to keep one interested and in some spots over a half dozen species would be foraging at once. Cattle.  With their big eyes, expressive faces, surprising bulk and occasionally massive numbers making up herds as far as the eye could see, they are a subject all alone.

Photography Tips-

In lots of places the roads are tree lined so morning photographers might get a break (a little extra sleep) depending on which side of the road the action is.  For evening photographers who want the sun at their back, go a little earlier before the trees shade things over.  Lenses: your zoom will be a must for birds and wildlife while there’s nothing like a wide angle to accent landscape photos while exaggerating the clouds.

In the end it was the cows for me.  Big and small, red, black or white they are all interesting.  So if pictures of paradise become too much, head East and liven up your interest.  Coming up Wednesday- more birds of Florida and another chance to earn points toward a printed canvas in our regular reader contest.
