… confidently. Advances in digital camera technology and the corresponding reduction in price make it possible for literally everybody to have a camera capable of producing fine photos.
Learn these three modes on your Point and Shoot:

Take great pictures with your point & shoot by Gordon Campbell www.swfloutdoorphotography.com.
1- Program Mode. For all around ease of shooting don’t be afraid to simplify things. Instead pay more attention to lighting and composition. For everything but silhouettes, keep the sun at your back and develop a shooting angle that best portrays the subject. Consider practicing the rule of thirds and shoot from the same level as your target when possible.
2- Landscape Mode. While we don’t have many sprawling mountain scenes here in Southwest Florida, we do have the Everglades, Gulf of Mexico and scenic beaches. Your point and shoot’s landscape mode sets you up for strong blues and greens on the color spectrum and in simple terms, lots of extra focus for long, wide scenes. Try it.
3- Portrait Mode. Also referred to on some menus as soft snap this function very simply allows you to create photos resembling classic portrait composition. How? By photographing your lovely spouse, grandchild or pet at close range you note sharp facial features and a softly blurred non -distracting background. Easy right?
Is your point and shoot the more sophisticated digital SLR with a complex menu offering endless combinations of lenses, settings and exposures? No. Is it capable of producing superb photos for you? For sure. I’ve been practicing with a borrowed model in preparation for an upcoming seminar on the subject and am pleasantly surprised with the results. Start shooting with the three modes presented here and watch your photos improve. To learn more about success with your point and shoot camera you should contact me here about instruction or a complimentary seminar for your organization.
See you Wednesday for “Birds of Florida”. I’ll be featuring a bird with long legs, a red crest and an orange eye. Name it first and receive a free two hour lesson or a signed, matted 11×14″ print. Good luck, Gordon.
