Digital Enhancements Paint A Picture…

Adobe Photoshop Elements, Digital Photography, Art, Picasso, Digital Enhancement

Digital enhancements can help the photographer "paint a picture".

… which is great because as the immortal Pablo Picasso quipped “inside every photographer is a painter dying to get out.”   That may or may not be completely true but  it can be fun to apply an effect that suggests a painting to photographs especially ones to be printed on canvas.  The digital painter-

Any photo is a candidate but to me the best choices are the ones that depict landscapes and other scenic images.  Something that has a “feel” or element of human interest might appeal too, say a vase of flowers or  a couple of your favorite wines composed and shot nicely.  Tip: Sometimes a slightly out of focus photo can be “saved” with the application of an artistic filter since some sharpness is lost anyway with a painted “look”.

I’ve always used Adobe Photoshop Elements to process my digital photos and it’s literally a 3 click process to paint the picture.  By choosing “Filter”, “Artistic” and then choosing  something like “palette knife”, “dry brush” etc. you’re on your way.  For someone with a more advanced aptitude or experience level, adjustments can be made to the digital brush size and how well original details are preserved.

There’s no silver bullets so these fantastic digital capabilities won’t make you a great  artist in the traditional sense any more than owning a car suggests you’re the next NASCAR champ but the clever photographer can certainly elevate the caliber of her or his work when applying digital enhancements to paint a picture.
