Birds of Florida- Least Sand Piper
Continuing with our Birds of Florida Wednesday tradition, I have a question: Would you like a reason to visit Tiger Tail Beach? Here’s a tip: the birding and photography will get better and better by the week and one of the dozens of species including shorebirds you’ll encounter in this top birding location is the Least Sandpiper.

Tiger Tail Beach Least Sandpipers by Gordon Campbell www.swfloutdoorphotography.com.
What’s that little thing? They’ll be one of the smaller species and easily confused with Sanderlings, smaller Plovers and other Sand Pipers. Audubon says they’re our smallest shorebirds with tame characteristics. Generally brown on top and white below with a short black bill.
Use Enough Gun (that’s an old Robert Ruark Title), or better yet a huge lens. Mentioned here last week was that the only real way to get great pictures of shorebirds is to establish a very low shooting angle, try to get close and take advantage of your biggest lens. Be careful to keep yourself & your gear dry.
Coming Up: Fall is just around the corner so get ready for lots of outdoor photography. Leave a note or say hello if you’ve got a question I can answer for you or if you have an interest in upcoming field trips- Gordon.
